Tiny Skin Bumps on Your Neck or Armpits? Here’s What Your Body Might Be Trying to Tell You

Have you ever noticed small, soft bumps of skin appearing on your neck, under your arms, or even around your eyelids? Many people assume they’re harmless and ignore them, but these little growths—often called skin tags—can actually reveal important clues about your health.

Skin tags are extremely common, especially in adults. While they are usually harmless, their appearance can sometimes be linked to underlying lifestyle or health factors that shouldn’t be overlooked. Understanding why they appear can help you take better care of your skin and your overall well-being.

What Are Skin Tags?

Skin tags, medically known as acrochordons, are small, soft pieces of skin that hang off the body. They are typically flesh-colored or slightly darker and can appear smooth or slightly wrinkled.

They most often develop in areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing, such as:

  • The neck

  • Under the arms (armpits)

  • Groin area

  • Eyelids

  • Under the breasts

These bumps are non-cancerous and generally painless, but they can sometimes become irritated if they rub against clothing or jewelry.
