I found a bag full of strange glass tubes in my late uncle’s bedroom drawer. I have no idea what they’re for, but I’m really intrigued….👇👇See more

It looks like you may have discovered something small but surprisingly interesting.

From the image, these appear to be tiny sealed glass vials containing several small metal beads inside. They’re very uniform in size and shape, which suggests they were manufactured for a specific purpose — not random or decorative items.

Here are a few common possibilities:

🔹 Tilt / motion switches (mercury-free type)
These are often used in small electronic devices. When the tube is tilted, the metal beads roll and make contact between internal terminals, completing a circuit. They’re commonly found in:

  • Toys

  • Basic alarm systems

  • DIY electronics projects

  • Motion or vibration sensors

🔹 Vibration sensors
Some devices use rolling metal balls inside a sealed tube to detect movement or shaking.

🔹 Old electronic components
If your uncle enjoyed tinkering with electronics, radio building, or DIY gadgets, these could have been spare parts for projects.

What they likely are NOT:

  • They don’t resemble medical ampoules.

  • They don’t look like drug containers.

  • They aren’t typical decorative beads because of the sealed design.

⚠️ A quick safety note:
If they are older components, avoid breaking them. While these look like modern ball tilt switches (which usually don’t contain mercury), some very old glass switches did use mercury. If any break, avoid touching contents directly.
