Because of the way ligaments connect the skin to this bone structure, a small indentation can form on each side.

These dimples are named after Venus, symbolizing beauty and classical body aesthetics. In men, the same feature is sometimes referred to as the “Dimples of Apollo.”

Despite their romantic name, they are simply a natural variation in human anatomy.


Why Do Some People Have Them?

The presence of these dimples is mostly determined by genetics.

If the ligaments in your lower back connect to the skin in a certain way and there is minimal fat covering the area, the indentations may become visible.

Several factors can influence whether someone has them:
