The Perfect First Date… Until His Text the Next Morning Changed Everything

I went on a date with a guy my friend set me up with. Honestly, I didn’t expect much. Blind dates can be awkward, unpredictable, and sometimes painfully boring. But the moment he arrived, I could tell this one might be different.

He showed up with flowers. Not one of those quick grocery store bouquets you grab on the way to a date—actual roses. Fresh, beautiful, and carefully wrapped. It caught me off guard in the best way.

“Are these for me?” I asked, smiling.

“Of course,” he said. “A first date deserves real flowers.”

Dinner was perfect. He was charming without trying too hard, polite without sounding rehearsed. He opened doors, pulled out my chair, and listened when I talked. Not the fake kind of listening where someone just waits for their turn to speak. He actually paid attention.

We laughed a lot. The conversation flowed easily—from travel stories to embarrassing childhood memories. At one point I even thought, Wow… this might actually be one of those rare good dates people talk about.

When the check came, I reached for my wallet.

Big mistake.

“Absolutely not,” he said, sliding his card onto the tray before I could even touch it. “A man pays on the first date.”

I laughed a little, partly because of how confident he sounded.

“Next time, then,” I joked.

“Next time,” he repeated with a smile.

When the night ended, he walked me to my car. No awkward silence. No weird moment trying to decide whether to hug or shake hands. He simply hugged me, wished me a safe drive home, and said he hoped to see me again soon.

I drove away thinking it had been one of the best first dates I’d ever had.

That was until the next morning.

I woke up, grabbed my phone, and saw that he had texted me.

I smiled automatically. A good-morning text after a first date is usually a great sign, right?
