It all started like any other Monday morning. My boss scheduled a mandatory video call for 7 a.m. Everyone logged in, cameras on, coffee in hand, ready to discuss the week ahead. But he didn’t show.
We waited. Ten minutes. Fifteen minutes. Twenty. HR finally ended the call, apologizing for the confusion. At first, I assumed it was just a scheduling mistake—a time zone error, or maybe someone had misclicked the invite.
Later that day, we received shocking news: he’d died in his sleep. My initial reaction was disbelief. I figured the missed call was just a coincidence. But then I checked the invite again.
It had been sent at 9:12 a.m. that same morning, from his work email account. The subject line read: “Please be on time.”
A glitch? A hacked account? IT assured us it had to be some technical error. But even knowing that, I still get chills thinking about it.
Strange Happenings at Home
That same week, we hired a nanny—a quiet, 24-year-old woman who seemed gentle and patient. My son, 7, took to her immediately. He grew attached almost overnight, throwing tantrums whenever she was away. At first, it seemed normal. Children latch onto caregivers quickly, especially someone warm and attentive.
But then subtle things started happening. The nanny would occasionally say things she shouldn’t have known, little details about my son’s habits or favorite books—information we hadn’t shared with her yet.
One evening, I noticed a note on our shared home calendar:
“Don’t forget bedtime story at 8. He’s ready.”
Neither my husband nor I had typed it. We double-checked—no one else had access.
The Unsettling Patterns
Between the mysterious early-morning email from my boss and the nanny’s uncanny awareness of my son, I started noticing patterns that didn’t make sense:
-
Objects would be slightly moved—never important items, just subtle things that made me question my memory.
