With Warmer Days Ahead, I Swear By This Trick to Getting Rid of All the Flies, Mosquitoes, and Bugs —

As the weather warms up, many of us look forward to sunny days, outdoor dinners, and fresh air. But along with the sunshine comes an unwelcome guest: bugs. Flies buzzing around the kitchen, mosquitoes ruining your evening on the porch, and other pests invading your home can turn what should be a relaxing time into a constant battle.

Over the years, I’ve tried every spray, trap, and gadget imaginable, and most of them are either toxic, temporary, or expensive. After some trial and error, I discovered a simple, natural, and highly effective trick that keeps flies, mosquitoes, and other pesky insects at bay — and I swear by it every spring and summer.

Why Bugs Multiply During Warmer Days

Insects thrive in warm weather for several reasons:

  1. Increased Breeding: Many insects reproduce faster in heat and humidity.

  2. Standing Water: Puddles, plant saucers, and clogged gutters provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

  3. Food Sources: Fruits, sugar, and even pet food left out attract flies and ants.

  4. Open Windows and Doors: As we ventilate our homes, bugs find their way inside more easily.

Understanding why they appear in greater numbers helps you tackle them more effectively.

My Go-To Trick: A Simple Natural Solution

Instead of chemical sprays or expensive traps, I use a combination of natural ingredients that repel insects safely, quickly, and reliably. Here’s what you need:

Ingredients:

  • Apple cider vinegar or white vinegar

  • Dish soap

  • A few drops of essential oils like eucalyptus, citronella, or peppermint

  • Small bowls or jars

How It Works:

  1. Apple cider vinegar attracts flies and gnats.

  2. Dish soap breaks the surface tension, causing insects that land on the liquid to sink and drown.

  3. Essential oils repel mosquitoes and other flying pests.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Pour 1/2 cup of vinegar into a small bowl or jar.

  2. Add 1–2 drops of dish soap and mix gently.

  3. Add 3–4 drops of your chosen essential oil.

  4. Place the bowls near windows, doors, or areas where bugs gather.

Within hours, flies and gnats are attracted to the vinegar and trapped by the soap. Mosquitoes are deterred by the scent of essential oils, making your home and outdoor areas more comfortable without harmful chemicals.
